Wishes

The scene sweeps by like a pick to strings
A field of dirt and yellowed grass
A grey sky to which I wish to sing
Peeling paint falling around dusty windows

A solo rings out sounds of agony
Echoing against a concrete floor
Forgotten to the flow of destiny
Simple wishes forgotten forever more

Flannel checks against the skin
Small wheels rolling over busted pavement
A mournful call to what could have been
And a look harking back to the vagrants

So let the canvas fall hard running
Fleeing the things that will not be
To forget desire's constant buzzing
Has been known to drop a man to his knees
