Literature Text

With a slip of the tongue I fell through the cracks
Into an abyss where whites mingled with blacks
Crumbling grays scattered like snow to the touch
Billowing out and broken like a shattered crutch

So I went without knowing my up from my down
Swimming through a slowly fading town
A place that once bore words of dreams and promise
Now makes every citizen its very own Saint Thomas

Through every little split and schism did I float
Recalling with care how the lanes once bore note
The mile'd roads and those named for the greats
House little now but the howling of the wraiths

So it falls without the grace once retained
And let rust the wrists that were once unchained
For I have seen the splintered wood in a fever dream
And can promise that everything is very much as it seems
